Defend the Earth II Post Jam Launch

Major Changes

  • Added Alternative movement system 
    • Dev Comment: Movement is constant, no matter the ships rotation e.g. If the ship is facing at a right-angle, holding the W key still propells the Player Ship Upwards
  •  Added Auto-fire option
    • Dev comment: Weapons always fire, rather than needing [LMB] to be held down. Player still needs to aim Weapons
  • Player Settings are now saved between games
  • Moved Highscore Tag Input Field from Start Panel to Game Over Screen
    • Dev comment: Some players missed the Highscore Tag input field on the Start Menu
  • Reworked Difficulty Scaling
    • Dev comment: Each mode was too easy/hard respectively. Alien Health/Damage now vary by a maxium of 33%

Balance Changes

Ship

  • Increased damage of player Chain Gun Weapon
  • Increased base damage dealt by Laserbeam Weapon
  • Reduced range of player Laserbeam Weapon


Orbit

  • Increased damage of Basic Satellites
  • Increased damage dealt by Laserbeam Satellites
  • Substantially increased damage dealt by Space Station Turrets


Aliens

  • Reduced Health of the Smallest/Fastest Alien Ship Type
  • Increased Damage dealt by Smallest/Fastest Alien Ship Type
  • Reduced Damage dealt by Largest Alien Ship Type
  • Reworked Final Mission Alien Spawning 
    • Dev comment: Small Ship type spawns less frequently and earlier, Largest Ship type spawns more frequently

Other

  • Increased Population Growth Cap from Emergency Repopulation modifier
  • Prototype Laser rotation speed increases at a constant rate (before multiplied each upgrade)
  • Various small tweaks to the Earth's Population Growth Formula


QoL Improvements

  • Added Full settings menu to Tech Panel Display (Opened by Button at Top Left of Panel) 
  • Removed Unlock descriptions from Technology tooltips (now just displays Technology name and the perks it provides)
  • Slightly increased the distance that Alien Ships spawn from the Earth (sometimes enemies could spawn on-screen)
  • Added new Alien Death Animation to Biggest enemy type (now explodes)
  • Added Game Difficulty to Leaderboard entries
  • Changed Minimap Icons so that Icons more accurately reflect the size of the Alien ships they represent
  • Added Alternative Movement System and Auto-fire checkboxes to How to Play Panel (under subheading "Controls")
  • Added flashing effect to Laserbeams
  • Added close settings panel by clicking anywhere outside settings panel window
  • Reduced maximum character limit for Highscore Tags from 21 characters to 18


Bug fixes

  • Fixed bug where Alien Death animations did not play, and Alien Ships just disappeared upon being destroyed.
  • Fixed formatting bug on Game Over Screen
  • Fixed bug where Laserbeam damage drop-off was incorrectly calculated
  • Fixed bug where Player Ship Rotation Speed Upgrades did not apply
  • Fixed bug where Player could input Highsore Tag that overflowed Highscore display row
